Open Metal Mask, a Key Material of OLED Manufacturing Process
OMM(Open Metal Mask)

Poongwon Precision’s main product is OMM(Open Metal Mask), which is the OLED Display vacuum deposition part.

Vacuum deposition is one of the key processes of the OLED display manufacturing process and it is used to configure the organic light-emitting layer that emits red, green, and blue on the glass that serves as the substrate. The vacuum deposition is similar to the concept of ‘evaporating’. Just like water vapor is formed like dew on the lid of a pot when water is boiled, the OLED display vacuum deposition process refers to the process of heating organic materials instead of water in a vacuum to deposit.

OMM is a metal frame with a thickness of about 30mm and a size of 1,700*1,100mm and dozens of cells are pierced in the shape of a square liquid crystal of a smartphone on a thin metal film less than 0.2mm thick. The specifications of this cell changes depending on the size and shape of the display screen that the customer produces.

Among the specifications required by OMM, the most important is the positioning accuracy of the cell. The better this is, the better display can be produced with a thin bezel (border). Poongwon Precision provides the industry’s highest level of accuracy by reflecting the error values from the etching process and tensile process into the design.

Based on such excellent production capability, Poongwon Precision produces OMM for unstructured displays, which are difficult to work with, and these are used to manufacture unstructured smart goggles or vehicle displays.
